Automatic Planning of Machining Fixture Layouts through Geometric Reasoning of Cad Part Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fixture layout planning refers to the task of identifying the locating and clamping positions on part faces. This spatial placement directly governs the workpiece accuracy and stability under machining loads. This paper reports the design and implementation of an intelligent system, INTFIX, to accomplish this task. It describes the algorithms designed and implemented for automatic generation of fixture layout plans for machining setups. It details various strategies devised to determine the most suitable locating and clamping positions for fixturing the part. The paper concludes by illustrating typical example to demonstrate the proposed concepts.

Implementing Rapid Prototyping Using CNC Machining (CNC-RP) Through a CAD/CAM Interface
This paper presents the methodology and implementation of a rapid machining system using a CAD/CAM interface. Rapid Prototyping using CNC Machining (CNC-RP) is a method that has been developed which enables automatic generation of process plans for a machined component. The challenge with CNC-RP is not the technical problems of material removal, but with all of the required setup, fixture and t...
متن کاملGeometric reasoning for optimizing backward growing-based feature recognition
Feature recognition has been a weak link in most implementations of integrated CAD/CAM systems for machining. A method called Backward Growing was recently suggested as a simple, but effective means to recognize machining features from the boundary representation (brep) of a designed part. The method promises, through its simplicity, to be applicable to many varieties of machined shapes. Howeve...
متن کاملGeometric Reasoning for Feature Recognition
Recognition of machining features provides a bridge between Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) of machined parts. CAD produces part descriptions in terms of geometric entities or design features, which need not coincide with the manufacturing features needed by process planning activities. The CAD data must therefore be interpreted so as to generate part represen...
متن کاملUsing a Feature Algebra for Reasoning about Geometric Feature Interactions
(AD generated objects can be defined in terms of the complete geometry of the part. In automated process planning, the geometry is the same, but the meaning associated with this geometric structure is different, and dictates a change in the description. Various solutions have been proposed to solve this incompatibility , including automated feature extraction, design by features, and human-supe...
